At the start of this phase, we attended a Machine Learning workshop conducted by our Programming Fundamentals professor Dr. Bilal Ahmed. In this workshop, we were introduced to practical skills and gained deeper insights into machine learning concepts. We also worked on hands-on activities, which helped us understand how these concepts are applied in real-world scenarios. After attending the workshop, I received a Certificate of Participation, which was a big achievement for me. It also helped me improve my skills and boosted my confidence in learning new technologies.
As the first semester progressed, the complexity of courses increased and preparing for final exams became the primary focus. Python introduced advanced libraries and topics that required consistent practice, while Applied Physics experiments demanded careful planning, precise execution and the ability to connect theory with real-world applications. The growing workload challenged me to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently and maintain focus on learning rather than just completing assignments.
To cope with this, I joined a study group of six fellow Computer Engineering students. Collaborative learning proved highly beneficial as we shared notes, explained concepts to each other and practiced problem-solving together. Group discussions helped clarify difficult topics, offered different perspectives and reduced the pressure of studying alone. This experience also fostered teamwork, communication skills and mutual accountability, which are essential not only in academics but also in professional life.
Upon completing the final exams, I reflected on my first semester with a sense of accomplishment. Achieving a GPA of 3.6 out of 4.0 was rewarding, but the greater learning lay in overcoming challenges such as time management, balancing lab work, assignments and hostel responsibilities. The first semester taught me resilience, discipline and the value of structured preparation. These experiences laid a solid foundation for my future semesters, giving me confidence to face new subjects, mentor juniors and continue building both academic knowledge and personal growth.
Additionally, all of my ICT lab manuals were ranked at the top in my Computer Engineering session 2025. As a result, my lab manual was selected by my teacher to be placed in the ICT lab as a reference for juniors so they can learn and get guidance from it. This was a proud moment for me, as it showed that my hard work was recognized. I also achieved an A grade in this lab, which further strengthened my confidence and motivation to continue performing well in my studies.
